We Teach Differently

— A healthier way to experience piano

Drawing on more than 30 years of professional experience in performing, teaching, and training across Japan, Europe, and the U.S., we have developed a unique approach to piano learning. →About

We bring deep musical expertise to every lesson, bringing out your natural musical awareness and physical ability at the piano—without imposing a fixed path.

You’ll experience co-creative learning in every lesson. A lively, interactive atmosphere gives you the freedom to explore without pressure. Playful guidance awakens your perception of musical energy and your intuitive, embodied sense of playing.

As this awareness awakens, confidence grows naturally—and a lifelong relationship with the piano begins to take shape.

Piano playing is a comprehensive activity. The essential skills that build a strong foundation are naturally woven into lessons, helping you enjoy playing with greater freedom and confidence:

  • Solfège

  • Ear Training

  • Piano Technique

  • Music Reading

  • Theory

  • Successful Practice

  • Performance Skills

Our Original Books

Our original piano books—Mickey & Yaco’s Catchy Piano! Series—support a strong foundation while encouraging steady, inspiring progress through pieces students can enjoy playing. → Books

Music You Love

Where You Learn

Choose Where You Learn

Rockville Home Studio

Greendog’s home studio is located near Rockville Metro Station. You’ll enjoy the rich sound and responsive touch of a Steinway Model B grand piano. The studio also offers a Yamaha U3 upright and a Casio Privia PX-150 digital piano.

With multiple instruments available, the teacher and student can work side by side, demonstrate ideas immediately, and move between listening and playing without having to share a single bench. The Casio digital piano’s variety of instrument sounds adds another playful dimension, expanding musical imagination and keeping exploration fresh.

Students also have access to our extensive music library, making it easy to explore a wide range of repertoire and find music that fits their interests and stage of development.

In-Home

In-home lessons are available in Bethesda, Potomac, and College Park.

For students and families who value convenience, in-home lessons eliminate the need to commute and allow students to learn on the piano they practice on every day. Your teacher can work directly with your own instrument, allowing you to hear what it is capable of in experienced hands and discover how to bring more out of the piano you already know.

Travel fees apply, with the amount based on location. →Travel Fee for Home Lessons

Online

Online lessons offer exceptional convenience and scheduling flexibility while still providing detailed, interactive instruction—anywhere you have access to a piano, a device, and a reliable internet connection.

When helpful, we use multiple camera angles so students can clearly see hand position, movement, and demonstrations from different perspectives. Because the teacher and student are each seated at their own piano, ideas can be demonstrated immediately without having to switch places or share a bench, making lessons especially efficient.

Online lessons are also a useful option when you’re away from home but have access to a piano, or when you have mild cold symptoms but still feel well enough for a lesson—allowing you to continue learning while avoiding the risk of spreading illness to others.
